Purpose
These principles set out how TD & Partners Global uses artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technology responsibly. They are a public set of operating principles and commitments, not a claim of external certification or completed audit. We apply them across our own operations and the technology we deploy for clients.
Human accountability
People are accountable for the outcomes of AI and technology we use. We do not treat automated output as a substitute for human judgement in decisions that materially affect individuals. Clear responsibility is assigned for systems we build or operate.
Fairness and non-discrimination
We work to design and use technology in ways that are fair and do not unjustifiably disadvantage individuals or groups. We are alert to bias in data and outputs and seek to mitigate it where reasonably practicable.
Privacy and data protection
We apply data-protection principles to the information used by AI and technology, as described in our Global Privacy Notice. We minimise the personal information used and respect individuals' rights.
Transparency
We are open about where and how we use AI and technology in our work, in a way that is appropriate to the context and does not compromise security. We explain the role of AI to clients and, where relevant, to those affected.
Security and resilience
We apply the measures described in our Information Security Statement to AI and technology systems, and we consider the resilience of systems to error, misuse and changing conditions.
Appropriate human review
Where AI output informs decisions that materially affect individuals, we ensure appropriate human review. We do not rely solely on automated output for such decisions, and we do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects without the safeguards required by law.
Intellectual property
We respect the intellectual-property rights of others in the technology and data we use, and we are mindful of the intellectual-property implications of AI-generated output. We address ownership and licensing clearly in our engagements.
Responsible procurement
We select AI and technology providers with care, considering their own responsible-use practices, security and transparency. We use contractual commitments where appropriate.
Testing and monitoring
We test the technology we deploy before use where appropriate and monitor its performance in operation. We act on issues identified through monitoring and feedback.
Client responsibility
Where we deploy AI or technology for clients, we agree the scope, purpose and limitations clearly, and we support clients in meeting their own responsibilities. We do not represent that technology replaces the client's own accountability.
Limitations of AI-generated output
AI-generated output can be inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable. We treat it as one input among others, subject to verification, and we do not rely on it uncritically. We are transparent about its limitations.
Reporting concerns
Anyone who has a concern about how we use AI or technology can raise it through our Speak Up and Whistleblowing Policy. We take such concerns seriously and investigate them.
Review and continuous improvement
We review these principles as the technology and its governance evolve. We do not claim to have completed assessments or audits that have not actually occurred. The effective date and version are shown on the policy page.
